What did he see and what did he know? I would ask Baba Dick Gregory this question today if I could. For those who don’t know why the phrase “woke” began to trend in 2018; it was mostly due to the posthumous letter written to his beloved Black Community by Baba now Ancestor Dick Gregory. At its conclusion he commanded us to “Stay Woke”, overnight that phrase began to trend throughout Black Twitter and Black social media spaces. For us, among other more powerful interpretations, it was a call to be more vigilant in the face of increased terrorism against our people; but it was also a call to remain active in the darkness of night should the moon disappear due to unforeseen events, obscuring our mortal vision but not our spiritual vision as we traverse these dangerous times to ones promising much more fruitful returns. For others – and by those others I mean “palm colored” knuckle dragging cave dwelling interlopers who believe it is their right to not only define our reality but to weaponize the mental building blocks instructing our world view against our community so the reality we define is distorted and to their benefit (for any reading this, you choose rather you fall into that category, the qualifiers have been listed) – they saw this trend as an opportunity to sew descent within our community, to demonize who we are to those outside our community (good reddens to them) and to spew hatred towards their fellow humanity. In doing so, they created an ideology where none had existed before (a tactic I think we should embrace, woke should become an ideology since it’s clear those criticizing woke are themselves “dead to the world” as the old heads used to say), they bunched together a Black call and response phrase with Marxism and homosexuality connections never applied to the phrase before and they began using the word as a stand-in for the word nigger barrowing Paul Wyricks tactic of wrapping racist names in benign or less lethal culturally-associated language. In short, “woke” became the new bugaboo for the right wing in the United States.

Many, including myself, did not fully appreciate just how vicious the attacks would become on woke and by extension Black people in this country; sure, I knew the right wing would use the phrase to go after Black institutions, Black public figures and even Black culture, they’d done this many times before using aspects from our community to elicit fear from their white patrons; but after Biden took office, I completely under estimated just how far they would take their “war against woke” once they paired it with the mischaracterized CRT or Critical Race Theory; yet I should have seen it coming because I understood how the right wing interpreted CRT. Primarily, they saw it not as some legal concept taught in university, they saw it as an extension from political correctness and they saw that as an extension of the Black School and Education Movement which they rightfully saw as an extension from the Black Power Movement, a movement made possible by the Civil Rights Movement (CRM, note the similarity to CRT). The civil rights movement was prophesized in the introduction to The Conservative Mind which laid a foundation for the thinking processes that would oppose the positive change sought by this movement and the subsequent movements spawned from it, for the next 6 decades. CRT was not just an outgrowth from these movements though, it was seen as an out-and-out attack on the mythologies that made America great in the right wingers mind; mythologies that confirmed their superiority. And as long as they were atop its hierarchical system, rather they were there economically or racially, as long as they could see themselves as better, America was great. Secondarily, CRT, in the right wingers mind, was not further understood just as a law school theory offering legitimate fact-based criticisms of the legal system structure and its continued role in maintaining the racism that has been woven throughout it since this countries colonial days, a theory whose application often revealed racial problems that appear to be simply cultural but in fact are sanctioned by codified law thus making them annullable and possibly even changeable in the hearts and minds of those who benefited from them. No, secondarily, in the right wingers mind CRT was an all encompassing ideology as well plotted as Marxism, Communism, Socialism and Racism; all rolled into one formation. In their minds, its promised to roll over their civilization like Europe rolled over the world’s ancient civilizations; conquering all it touched by skillfully turning their children against their parents, their culture and their values.

Obviously this is none sense to any thorough thinking Black Human Being and rational thinking Non-Black Human Being; but to the egocentric right winger; this was the truth. And anyone associated with CRT or woke; anyone Black or Non-White (I believe what Neely Fuller Jr. wrote in his sole publication, the world is binary) was an existential threat to their livelihoods. The last group that was seen as an existential threat to the continued progress of European civilization was the Native Indigenous people; let us hope the mindset which befell them is not arising again presently. But I digress – as an existential threat to their livelihoods, the bulk of the population voted against that threat as it had been presented to them and now the truly grotesque threat to this countries continued status as a federated entity has revealed itself for the world to see. With it comes that same spirit that infected the Europeans mind during those civilization building days known as Manifest Destiny.

With destruction dripping from its overhanding fangs, it knows only one vice – greed; but not just any greed, lust-filled greed. It is enlarged by its ability to wrench apart from the body politic and the social body, institutional limbs; cracking them open to suck out the precious ore from inside them. Rendering human and natural elements sculpted into usable items as mere sustenance for its continuation. It feeds like a vampire beset with uncontrollable bloodlust. And now it is loosened upon this land. Woe to the White European American who let it from its chains, who opened the crypt where it had been imprisoned 80 years back. Who marveled at its longevity before watching it flee towards the burning lights of Washington D.C. Your wish is but the chorus note for this creatures’ bone chilling psalm. And woe you shall have if the monster you untamed proceeds to the global stage.

In the next installment I will write about how woke, the command to us, ties in with Baba T’Shaka’s use of both Biden’s and Eisenhower’s last addresses to the Nation. I will attempt to show in under 1,500 words these connections and why woke scars the Tech Industrialists so much.
