FIRST THOUGHTS OF THE EPISODE: Secret societies have been a topic for great discussion over the past 30+ years; however the discussions had were centered exclusively around white societies or white adjacent societies like the Greek fraternities and sororities commonly associated with the boules. There is, however, a much more hidden group of societies, a group exclusive to the Black community, a group so secretive, a definitive work has yet to be written up about them. Yet, their existence is confirmed in text contained in hundreds of books. These societies range in their purposes; but all were structurally rooted in the needs of our community. In this lecture, Dr. T’Shaka traces the lineage of some of those secret societies, abridging this history lesson with a masterful commentary combining personal stories with truly fascinating knowledge.
